In 2006 the GMHC Board of Directors unanimously adopted a five year strategic plan which defines the projects we intend to undertake, with one year, three year, and five year benchmarks. All projects are conditioned upon the availability of funding. In 2007 we completely rebuilt the head of the Main Pier. This project included the installation of a small crane to simplify the process of putting in and removing our rowing boats from the water as necessary. Our major capital project for 2008 involves the construction of a second story addition to the existing Marine Resource Center, which presently houses a classroom and digital microscope lab. Highlighted by a new gallery, the expansion also features a balcony overlooking the harbor and a third story loft which will be used primarily for storage. The project also incorporates elevated connectors, linking the Marine Resource Center to the Visitor Center and to the Boat House, where a new observation area will provide visitors with the opportunity to observe work taking place in the shop. And, it includes new administrative office and a dramatically enlarged gift shop. The project is on schedule for completion early this summer. In 2009 we hope to rebuild the remaining two-thirds of the Main Pier. The progress of this project. We will also be planning improvements to the Mill Building and to the Sea Pocket Lab. |
