Teen Rowing. This instructional rowing program meets from May to October. A new session starts every six weeks. Students fourteen years of age and older learn to row our pilot gig and traditional dories. In the spring and fall, participants row twice a week, three times a week in the summer. In addition to on-water time, sessions include dockside instruction covering care of equipment, docking procedures, safety, and team building. In November, we offer a 2-week race preparation session for students who wish to compete in the Icebreaker Races held late each November in Boston.

Adult Rowing Program. Open to all Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center members 18 years of age and older, the adult program provides opportunities to enjoy recreational rowing in Gloucester Harbor. Rowers
have unlimited use of the Siren Song, a 30' long pilot gig that accommodates six single-oar rowers and a coxswain. Crews depart several times a day during the summer months, less often during the spring and fall. Rows are usually about one hour long and rowers simply sign up for times that fit their schedules. Rowers also have access to a banks dory (rowed by one or two people).

There is a fee of $40 per year to participate in the rowing program. This covers the use of all necessary equipment, including life jackets. All rowers must participate in a 30-minute orientation session (as well as a separate instructional session for those interested in rowing the dory). No prior rowing experience required. Those who enjoy competition have the opportunity to participate in a variety of races throughout the season. All rowers are encouraged to help with boat maintenance tasks throughout the year.
